tonyhax is a softmod for the original PlayStation console which allows you to safely and easily boot up import and backup games like never before. No need to open up a console, pick up a soldering iron, swap discs with precise timing, block sensors, or look for a Parallel I/O cartridge to use UniROM with! By the end this is all launched using a tonyhax compatible game and a couple game saves on a memory card.
Although we have several methods of copying downloaded game saves to a PS1 memory card, the most accessible method people might have would be using a modified PS2. This tutorial will step through the process of using a PS2 to copy the required saves from a USB drive to a PS1 memory card, then showing how to utilize tonyhax once installed. As an added bonus, this tutorial will even show you how to transfer your tonyhax setup to other memory cards!
Finally, it is important to note this does not work on EVERY console. The following consoles are confirmed to be compatible:
– Every European (PAL) PS1 Console
– NTSC-U Consoles Newer than SCPH-1001
– PS2 Consoles SCPH-39XXX and Lower (With iLink Port)
The following consoles are NOT compatible:
– Every Japanese (NTSC-J) PS1 Console
– SCPH-1001 NTSC-U PS1 Consoles
– PS2 Consoles SCPH-5000X and Higher (No iLink Port)
