The Atari 5200 is a fascinating system from Atari. It is in essence an Atari 8-Bit computer but not an Atari 8-Bit computer. The system would find relatively low success and as such has faded into relative obscurity compared to its predecessors. Playing 5200 games can be a real treat however and thanks to emulation we can do so on a variety of new machines. In this video, I am going to be covering Atari 5200 emulation through Retroarch. There are a few shortcomings to note about this method of emulation and they come down to games that would use the 5000’s analog input. On Retroarch these games have over-sensitive movement making them very hard to play. These games are supposed to be able to be played using a mouse as input but with Retroarch I have never been able to get that to work. In this regard, it makes more sense to use standalone versions of the Atari 800 emulator but for those of you who would prefer Retroarch here are the steps involved!
