Light gun games were extremely popular back in the glory days of Arcades in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. However, there hasn’t been a mainstream plug and play option for people trying to re-live their light gun glory days.
Sure there’s the Sinden, Gun4IR, AE lightgun and the Ultimarc AimTrak but those are all DIY solutions that require you to configure everything yourself. You need to have knowledge of MAME, TeknoParrot or whatever emulator that’s required to play the games you want.
Then came along the PDP mars featured at E3 2019. It promised to bring light gun games back to the masses by supporting modern consoles like the PS4, PS5 and Xbox One. The product was released but with only 3 games available at launch and a somewhat clunky external camera, it never got the support it needed to be successful
So, come on a journey with me where we look into what happened to the PDP Mars and what alternatives we have left for a Plug and Play experience.
