So… What happened to that Xbox 360 Dashboard Update?

With the Xbox 360 Marketplace shutting down last month, everyone was predicting a Dashboard/Kernel update would release which would take away access to the digital storefront. In a surprise to everyone, no update was deployed, and all changes to the console were done server-side! Although the online Dashboard leaves a lot to be desired for many folks out there, none of the changes made are permanent since you can retain your old Dashboard simply by disconnecting from Xbox Live.

Many people believed this was all to the update, but people who were anticipating a Dashboard/Kernel update were left puzzled as there in fact was a new update created in the form of 17698! What did it contain? Why didn’t it deploy? When will it release? We don’t know the answers to those questions, but we can certainly have some fun speculating!
